Bipolar Disorder Home > Abilify Dosage

For adults with schizophrenia who are first starting Abilify, dosing typically starts at 10 to 15 mg once daily. For bipolar disorder, most adults start with a daily dose of 15 mg. Your doctor may increase or decrease this amount after two weeks if necessary. The recommendation for major depression (when used with an antidepressant) in adults is 2 mg to 5 mg once daily.

An Introduction to Abilify Dosing

The dose of Abilify® (aripiprazole) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The medical condition being treated
  • Your age
  • The severity of your condition
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.

As always, do not adjust your Abilify dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Dosage of Abilify for Schizophrenia

The recommended starting Abilify dose for schizophrenia in adults is 10 mg to 15 mg once daily. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase your dose up to 30 mg per day. Your healthcare provider should not increase your Abilify dose more frequently than every two weeks, as it takes about two weeks for the medication to build up to a steady level in your body.

For adolescents age 13 to 17 years old, the recommended starting Abilify dose for schizophrenia is Abilify 2 mg once daily. Within a week or so, your healthcare provider should try to increase your dose to Abilify 10 mg once daily. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase the dose up to 30 mg per day.
