Geodon for Children

Geodon® (ziprasidone hydrochloride) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It belongs to a class of drugs known as "atypical antipsychotics."

Geodon has been shown to help improve symptoms of schizophrenia. It can also help prevent schizophrenia relapses (worsening of the condition). For bipolar disorder, the medicine can be used to treat acute episodes of mania or mixed episodes (which involve symptoms of both mania and depression).

Healthcare providers will generally not prescribe Geodon for children. The medication has not been approved to treat bipolar disorder in children or childhood schizophrenia. Be sure to talk with your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of prescribing Geodon for children.
