Geodon Drug Information

Geodon® (ziprasidone hydrochloride) is a prescription antipsychotic medication licensed for treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Although it is not a cure, it can help improve symptoms of these conditions and prevent relapses.

It is not entirely clear how Geodon works for the treatment of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. However, it is known that the drug blocks or lessens the effects of several chemicals in the brain. These brain chemicals (such as dopamine and serotonin) may be elevated in people with mental illnesses.

Before you starting taking Geodon, drug information should be discussed with your healthcare provider to help minimize risks and to ensure a safe treatment process. It is important to talk to your healthcare provider before starting this medication if you have heart disease, diabetes, low blood pressure, or any other existing medical conditions. Some potential side effects of Geodon include drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, and weight gain.
