Problems With Depakote

Although most people tolerate Depakote® (divalproex sodium) well, it is possible to develop side effects with this drug. However, side effects are often minor. In most cases, they either do not require medical attention or can be treated easily.

Shakiness, nausea, headaches, and drowsiness are the most common side effects that have been reported with Depakote. Problems that were reported much less frequently but are potentially serious (and should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately) include unusual bruising or bleeding, severe abdominal pain, and low body temperature. These symptoms could be signs of more serious problems with Depakote.
