A healthcare provider may prescribe Depakote® (divalproex sodium) to prevent migraine headaches or to treat certain symptoms of epilepsy and mania. Depakote works by affecting certain chemicals and sodium channels in the brain. This prescription medication is available in the form of delayed-release tablets and "sprinkle capsules." Because this medication is not suitable for everyone, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical conditions you have, as well as any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and supplements).
