Depakote Tablets

Depakote® (divalproex sodium) is licensed to treat epilepsy and manic depression. It is also approved for the prevention of migraines. The medicine comes in tablet and capsule form, and is available by prescription only. The capsule form is only available in one strength (125 mg sprinkle capsules), but the tablets come in three different strengths, including:

  • Depakote 125 mg delayed-release tablets
  • Depakote 250 mg delayed-release tablets
  • Depakote 500 mg delayed-release tablets.

Although the capsules can either be swallowed or opened up and the contents sprinkled on a spoonful of soft food, the tablet form of Depakote should be swallowed whole. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets, as this will destroy the protective coating.
