Abilify Safety

If you have schizophrenia, autism, or bipolar disorder, your healthcare provider may recommend Abilify® (aripiprazole) to help improve your symptoms. The prescription drug is also approved to be used along with antidepressants for the treatment of depression.

Before you start taking Abilify, safety warnings and precautions for the medication should be discussed with your healthcare provider to help minimize risks. Make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before starting treatment if you have diabetes, dementia, or seizures. This is important because Abilify can increase blood sugar levels, increase the risk of seizures, and increase the risk of stroke in elderly people who take this medication for dementia.

It is also important to be aware of the potential side effects of Abilify. Some of the most common side effects that have been reported with this medicine include anxiety, vomiting, headaches, and insomnia.
