Abilify for Children

Abilify® (aripiprazole) is a prescription medicine commonly used for treating mental illnesses, such as bipolar disorder, autism, and schizophrenia. It is also approved to be used along with antidepressants to treat depression.
 
Healthcare providers can prescribe Abilify for children as young as 10 years old for the treatment of bipolar disorder. The antipsychotic medication can also be used to treat schizophrenia in children 13 to 17 years old. It is approved to treat irritability associated with autism in children age 6 through 17. It should not be used for treating depression in children. In order to help minimize risks, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of prescribing Abilify for children.
