Abilify Drug Interactions
When you take medications such as cimetidine or imatinib along with Abilify, drug interactions can occur. These reactions can increase your risk of side effects or perhaps make Abilify less effective, among other things. Before starting treatment, be sure to talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any drug interactions that may apply to you.
Abilify® (aripiprazole) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to interactions with Abilify include:
- Alcohol
- Certain antibiotics or antifungals, including:
- Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
- Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
- Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
- Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
- Miconazole
- Telithromycin (Ketek®)
- Certain anticonvulsants, including:
- Certain antidepressants, including:
- Citalopram (Celexa®)
- Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq™)
- Escitalopram (Lexapro®)
- Fluoxetine (Prozac®, Sarafem®, Selfemra™)
- Fluvoxamine (Luvox®, Luvox CR®)
- Milnacipran (Savella®)
- Nefazodone (Serzone®)
- Paroxetine (Paxil®, Paxil CR®, Pexeva®)
- Sertraline (Zoloft®)
- Venlafaxine (Effexor®, Effexor XR®)
- Cimetidine (Tagamet®)
- Imatinib (Gleevec®)
- Protease inhibitors, such as:
- Amprenavir (Agenerase®)
- Atazanavir (Reyataz®)
- Fosamprenavir (Lexiva®)
- Indinavir (Crixivan®)
- Nelfinavir (Viracept®)
- Ritonavir (Norvir®)
- Quinidine
- Rifamycin antibiotics, including rifabutin (Mycobutin®), rifampin (Rifadin®), and rifapentine (Priftin®).
