Abilify Discmelt

Abilify^® (aripiprazole) is a prescription drug commonly used for the treatment of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and major depression. It belongs to a group of medications called atypical (or second-generation) antipsychotic medications. Although it is not entirely clear how Abilify works, the medicine is known to block or lessen the effects of several chemicals in the brain. These chemicals (such as dopamine and serotonin) may be elevated in people with mental illnesses.

 

Abilify comes in tablet form and is taken by mouth, typically once a day. The medication is also available in tablets that are meant to dissolve rapidly in the mouth. These tablets are called Abilify Discmelt^® tablets. They do not need to be taken with water. Carefully remove the Discmelt tablets by peeling back the foil (not pushing the tablet), as they are delicate and are easily broken. Do not cut or split these tablets.
